The non-university institutions in BORA and the University of Bonn have been working and researching together successfully for decades. The expertise in BORA is wide-ranging. Bonn: defining profiles
The science location Bonn is known for a number of topics for which there are relevant topic hubs. BORA members and the University of Bonn are involved in these profile areas in a variety of ways.
Climate Research Hub
Bonn is a dynamic international center for climate research and policy. The University of Bonn, together with several leading international think tanks and over 25 United Nations organizations, forms a vibrant hub where cutting-edge research informs and shapes global environmental policy.
Biodiversity Research Hub
Bonn is a leading hub for biodiversity research, offering an exceptional combination of academic excellence, international collaboration, and proximity to global policy actors. The city is home to renowned research institutions and major United Nations agencies focused on the environment.
Sustainability Hub Region Bonn
The Bonn City Council has set the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2035. To support this transformation, the Sustainability Hub Region Bonn was established. It connects business, science, and society, supports companies and start-ups in developing sustainability strategies, and provides impulses for a sustainable economy. During its founding phase, the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research was a concept partner.
UN Hub
UN Bonn organizations work on climate change, land degradation, biodiversity and ecosystem services, wildlife conservation, volunteerism, health, human security, disaster risk reduction, tourism, education and training as well as the achievement of the SDGs. The University of Bonn and UNU-EHS are closely cooperating.
Cyber Security Hub
The Cyber Security Cluster Bonn promotes cybersecurity through cooperation and knowledge transfer – in a practical and operational manner. BORA members such as Fraunhofer FKIE and Fraunhofer IAIS are actively involved. The University of Bonn offers both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s program in Cyber Security.
DigitalHub Region Bonn
The Digital Hub Region Bonn was founded in 2017. Numerous start-ups from the University of Bonn have found ideal conditions there for establishing their businesses. The University of Bonn is a shareholder of the digital center, which is supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
